DIY Jewelry Recycle Series : Part 7 - Extender Bracelet Watch

It's been a while since I have gotten a moment like this. In the fast blur that is life sometimes, there is something very rare and precious about the odd moments that come by that one has to do absolutely nothing. It is truly a time of peace watching the shortest day of the year pass by, while listening to the far away sounds of neighborhood kids playing cricket and sipping hot chocolate. 

More on that later - for now let's just ring in the New Year!! What do you do with a beloved watch with worn down straps that just won't get replaced? Well....

What you'll need

• Your favorite watch dial
• The bracelet you never wore
• Elastic beading cord
• A pair of scissors
• Super Glue/E6000

Step 1: Break down the bracelet to its findings. You may also choose to add in findings of your choice.

Step 2:  Take 2 pieces of the stretchy cord about 30 cms in length. Push the cord through the holding wire off one end of the dial and tie into a triple knot. Add in a drop of instant glue to secure.

Step 3: Start putting in the bracelet findings in the reverse order and direction. 

Step 4: Continue beading in reverse while checking for the size that fits your wrists the best. 

Step 5: Tie to secure at the second holding wire or the first wire by going behind the dial. Add in a drop of instant glue at each knot.

Step 6: Flip over the dial and findings and voila! You have yourself a new extender bracelet watch!! Great to bling it up at NYE parties!

DIY : Floral Headband / Flower Crown

As you know, come Spring, I've taken a liking to floral headbands that seem to be everywhere. Now that I've finally come up with one that may be worn without looking too much out of place here. I absolutely fell in love with the River Island one and decided to do one much like it, except with grey pearls. Check it out!

Here's what you'll need:

• A strip of leather or PU (called Rexine in India)
• Elastic cord
• A few pearl beads - I used grey
• Old eyeliner that's not black!
• A needle and black thread
• Fabric Glue

Step 1: Trace out rough outlines of your flowers onto the back of the leather fabric with the eyeliner. I used two flower shapes.

Step 2: Cut out the shapes with a sharp scissors. You'll need around 10 flowers in all.

Step 3: Cut out a length of cord about the circumference of your head by stretching it around your head. Leave about an inch extra on each side.

Step 4: Super impose the flowers one upon the other and stitching together the flowers, pearls and the cord.

Step 5: Seal the stitched flowers with a dab of fabric glue.

Step 6: Continue stitching the flowers to the pearls and the cord.

Step 7: Now place the last inch of each cord end into an inch-long rectangular piece of PU. Add glue, fold over the PU and stitch away.

And there it is - the floral headband! Don't worry about the silvery stuff, it'll fall off. Sorry for the bad photos guys! As you can see, I'm desperately in need of a new camera :-/

Try  to overlook the freaky factor in the above picture! :)

DIY : Colorblocked Earphones

It has been a while since color blocking stuff started trending. There's nothing that's not to love about it ! Add into that the cool-ness of colored headphones (check out some here) and the messy-ness of wires and cords in my travel bags and you get an opportunity to DIY!

Here's what you'll need to do it:

• A pair of earphones
• Embroidery thread of different colors
• Instant drying glue

Step 1: Start by wrapping the cord near the plug-in beginning with a drop of glue.

Step 2: After a few wraps start wrapping the cord with differently-colored embroidery threads with an occasional drop of glue.

Step 3: Wrap up till the "y-junction" of wires. For this part, you'll need to do the 8-Wrap, that is wrap around the cords as if you are tracing the "8" shape a couple of times.

Step 4: Continue along the individual cords until you reach the ear plug. 

Step 5: Embellish, if you prefer!

This was so fun to make- I'm thinking of coloring up the other cords too! :)
